ABOUT THE SITE

Started in 2009 as a home renovation journal, Modern Chemistry at Home has become a place to help you take steps toward creating a home you love. If you feel frustrated, stuck, or discouraged about your home, this is the place for you. If you long to bring creativity and beauty into your home, this is the place for you. If you look around your home and all you see are the things you don’t like, this is the place for you.

My hypothesis is that we all want a beautiful, cheerful home that suits the way we live and fits within a reasonable budget. That home can be the one you are in today, and I’m here to help you toward that goal.

Here at MCAH, you will find inspiration and encouragement to beautify the space you live in this very moment. As lab partners, we’re all working through our experiments side by side. Let’s paint (and maybe even re-paint) walls. Let’s try a new furniture arrangement. And while we’re doing this, let’s spur each other on. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my home. You might make some mistakes in yours. But let’s keep working toward our goals, together. Read more about my heart for this site here.

About Me

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’m Amy, the Modern Chemist. In 2009, my husband and I purchased a foreclosed home in the Minneapolis suburbs complete with a water-damaged kitchen and rotted-out siding. Right away, we started a series of large renovations and tackled portions of them ourselves. This experience sparked in me a love for home design.

But it has also been a lesson in contentment. Even while I dream of designing and building a house someday, I am so thankful for every square inch of our imperfect fixer-upper. It is a beautiful work in progress. I delight in working on our home and I am so grateful for the opportunity to help you with yours.
