I'm Amy, the Modern Chemist, and here's my hypothesis: Each one of us wants a beautiful, cheerful home that suits the way we live and doesn't cost a fortune. With a little hard work and creativity (and perhaps some help from me!) that home can be the one you are in today.

Are you ready to fall in love with where you live? Because class is about to begin. Put on your white coat, grab your safety goggles, and roll up your sleeves. Together, let's observe, measure, experiment, rearrange, paint, power tool, and create until we prove this hypothesis is true.

The last two days were tough, but the #spring10x10 is officially behind me! You better believe I'm hanging out tonight in my cozy jams. 😊 If wardrobe stuff interests you, click through to my blog to see my 10 items and the 10 outfits I wore the past 10 days. Or swipe to see just a few here. #es10x10 #10x10friends During this April snow bonanza, I've been keeping busy by participating in the #spring10x10—10 pieces of clothes into 10 outfits over 10 days. Each day I set up the tripod and the girls and I take pictures of each other. Here are a few outtakes. It's been fun, guys, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the chance to look at my wardrobe in new ways. The challenge ends on Sunday and I've been working on a blog post with all the details. 😊 Until then, stay warm northern friends—and happy spring to everyone else. 😉 #es10x10 #10x10friends Happy Easter! #cantaguyreadinpeace 😉 Thankful that the grave was empty. Thankful for Christ’s perfect obedience and what it bought for me—how it changed my life! Hallelujah, what a Savior! He actually got a few minutes to sit in his chair by himself. 😆 // This is a little outside the box for me, but I am planning to join in the #spring10x10 challenge hosted by @caroline_joy. It's 10 pieces of clothing worked into 10 outfits over 10 days. Maybe I'm crazy. But maybe not! Waiting for spring is tough, and I think the timing of this challenge is perfect. It's still cold here and I can't put away my winter clothes yet. This is a creative way to re-look at my wardrobe during the wait. I like what Caroline has written about how creativity flourishes within boundaries. So I'm excited! Anyone else willing to try it with me? Friday is the first day! Check out Caroline’s IG for more info. It’s meant to be fun, not hard. 😊 And I don’t plan to post outfit pictures here. Maybe on the blog, or maybe not. We’ll see. This morning I told them we were going to clean the floors and play “Sing Sweet Nightingale” and they totally got the vision. It was fun to have Cinderella and Gus help me clean, but let me tell you that was one wet floor! And Jane was only slightly disappointed that we weren’t surrounded by bubbles floating through the air. #itsahardknocklife Today's playing was pretend Camp Starburst with the neighbor girls. Kate was the "pretty princess worker." 😊 Guys, have you read Charlotte's Web? I remember watching a movie version as a child but I'm not sure if I ever read it for myself. We've been listening to it in the car and the end moved me to tears today in the Aldi parking lot. I knew what happened, but I was struck by the author's thoughtful and brave handling of friendship and death and new life. And spring! Oh spring. I feel like I will never look at a spider the same way again. 🕷 We borrowed the audiobook from the library and it was read by the author, E. B. White. His voice was just perfect. Of course, the girls have loved it and made costumes for it. 😆 Anyway, I strongly recommend if you are unfamiliar with it yourself or just want to revisit a childhood favorite! Here’s to reading (and listening to!) great books with our kids! We tried this for lunch today and it was a hit. “Homemade lunchables” for them and “fancy charcuterie board” for me...because it is all about marketing, isn’t it? 😉 #wefinishedwithchocolate #drywinterhands 😬 Serious question: Are all little boys born knowing how to make choo choo sounds? 🚂🤔 I am thankful for our sweet, simple life together in this house. ❤️ Ford did just figure out how to pull off marker caps, though...😬 Ben surprised me with flowers yesterday. ❤️ Flowers in a pitcher is kinda new for me but I like that the stems aren't showing! I am partway through The Hidden Art of Homemaking by Edith Schaeffer—she has a chapter on flower arranging and I am greatly looking forward to it. Just in time for spring. Spring is coming, right? 😉🌺❄️ Happy weekend! Enjoy the ☀️!
